The cabinetry typically found at the big-box chain stores is considered traditional production cabinetry. It is mass-produced, widely available within a short timeframe, and relatively simple to put together and install. Depending upon how and where you plan to use the cabinetry, traditional production cabinetry may be suitable for your needs.
However, while many brands look good hanging in a wall display, not all production cabinetry is the same. Over many years working with numerous different manufacturers, we've learned which brands offer solid value and which are best avoided. It is important to remember that although these cabinets may bear tags claiming they are made of "wood solids" or perhaps even "hardwood," the labels can be misleading. Cut one of the boards in half, and what you may find is the "wood" is actually some sort of engineered wood by-products that have been laminated to look like genuine, solid wood.
Understandably, these types of products usually only carry a guarantee as short as one or two years, while better built—and more costly—production cabinets may offer a somewhat greater guarantee. Again, these cabinets may be perfectly suited to your needs and budget, and can perform years of functionality for a reasonable price.
